Salar de Uyuni - Inca Huasi Island -

Thunupa Volcano- Lagunas de Tomave.

 

 

DAY 1

​

We start our trip 09:30 am. 

 

Our first stop will be towards Colchani where we'll discover the processing plants of Salt and how it is manufactured . If your are into shopping there will be plenty of souvenir stores too ! Soon after, our journey, into the biggest Salt Flat of the world, will sart , first with the salt museum "Playa blanca" and the Dakar monument .

 

Following our first contact with the Salt Flat we'll begin to drive towards the Inca Wasi Island located 80 km to the center of the Salar.

 

Wanna have lunch in a paradisiacal place? Then Inca Wasi is for you ! Where complete silence can be enjoy(especially in low season), and where a special cactus grows from 5 to 10 meters high. All this scenery mixed with the volcanic rocks covered with petrified coral will surely amaze you !.

 

Then we start our trip towards the Thunupa volcano, place where we can appreciate magnificent contrasted colors in a blue sky and clouds with distinctive shapes caused by the erosion of time and nature.

Speaking of Nature, a variety of Andean flora and fauna can be appreciated and, in the raining season, the plantations of QUINUA REAL can be seen with its beautifull palets of colors.

In terms of fauna, flamingos in their pastures. Vizcachas, Pumas, Llamas, Falcons and very rarely Condors, are all coexisting on this Volcano.

We will also discover its culture, the experiences of the local people, its pre Inca, Inca and Spanish ruins.

 

The sunset will be on the Salt Flat itslef, in a special reflection spot or whatever the climat will allow at that moment.

 

From there our Salt Hotel awaits for us, with private rooms and bathrooms, very cozy.

 

After dinner, we can contemplate the nightsky and the breathtaking scenary of the Salt Flats at Night time.

 

 

DAY 2

​

After a good breakfast, we will start our day by taking a walk in the community of Coqueza, to visit their ancient mummies and one of the viewpoints of Thunupa that overlooks the Salar.

Once we reach the bottom again, we'll find ourselfs a nice spot in the middle of the Salt Flats to enjoy a great lunch with a magnificent view of the surrounding volcanos ! In the afternoon, we cross the Salar, driving to Hotel de Sal

After settling in the Hotel, the sunset in the salar will take place and if the climate is a bit cloudy the sky will light up with beautifull tones of reddish. Dinner and breakfast are included in the Hotel.

 

DAY3

 

At 09:00 am., after a good breakfast, we embark on a journey to the secret lagoons of Tomave, full of stories and mysteries. Next to it, the great mining town of Pulacayo, formerly the Silver Mine, one of the most important worldwide, from 1880 to 1960 after Cerro Rico (In Potosi), awaits.

We continue towards the ancient town of Tholapampa, crossing multiple rivers, canyons and plains where Llamas and Vicunas live in their natural habitab. Ounce Tholapampa is covered, Our Jeep will arrive at PUKA LAGUNA (Red Lagoon), were the Andean flamingo species can be appreciated next to the Andean volcanoes

​

Following an ancient path, we reach the town of Concepcion, where we can take a bath in its thermal waters with very healthy minerals .

 

Close to the town of Tomave, an ancient Colonial Church of the 1700s can be visited.

 

We return to Uyuni to see the sunset in the mountains overlooking the largest Salt desert in the world in the Bolivian highland.
